A long weekend in the Bieszczady mountains
For the long November weekend (1 November is a national holiday in Poland, and this year it fell on a Wednesday, so by taking Thursday and Friday off, we had a 5 day weekend), we decided to break out of the city vibe and drive down to Bieszczady. Bieszczady are a 6-7 hour drive from Warsaw, so you really do need longer than a regular weekend to make it worth the effort.

School winter holidays. In Poland the school year is divided into two and in between there is a two week holiday, which is rotated by region and your two weeks fall somewhere between 1 January and end of February. Pre-pandemic we used to take the opportunity to go as far away as possible from the cold – Thailand, Bali, South Africa…those were the days!
Scotland Road Trip 2023 - Edinburgh - NC500 - Isle of Skye - Edinburgh
We finally decided to do a big fat Scottish road trip - something that had been on the “to do” list for years, but the fear of the infamous Scottish weather had deterred us. And it was AMAZING - breathtaking views at every turn, magical castles, a daily dose of waterfalls and beautiful untouched beaches. The whole trip exceeded our expectations. And the weather - aside from one day of severe winds at John o’Grotts - was actually pretty perfect (around 20-22 degrees most days).
Now that sounds very exciting!
Behind the cheesy tag line, I am a Londoner born and bred who has spent most of her adult life in Poland. I am a slight workaholic, a bit of a party animal, an animal lover, an ardent cook…and I have three children. I usually leave mentioning them until last, not because that’s where they fall in my priority list – I just find otherwise I am immediately put in the “Mum” box.
